FIBC vs Paper Bag: How to Choose Bulk Packaging

Load weight, moisture, cost and handling — a practical comparison to choose between FIBC and kraft paper bags.

Both FIBC (bulk bags) and kraft paper bags are workhorses of industrial packaging, but they suit very different jobs. Choosing correctly saves cost and avoids damage in transit.

FIBC: big loads, one move

An FIBC (often 500–1500 kg) moves large volumes in a single lift and empties quickly with a discharge spout. It is ideal for granules, powders and aggregates loaded by forklift or crane, and is reusable for many journeys.

Kraft paper bags: consumer-size, clean and printable

Paper bags (usually 25–50 kg) are best where goods are handled by hand, palletised, or sold in retail quantities — cement, mortar, tile adhesive, fertilizer and chemicals. They stack neatly, print well for branding, and are plastic-free when used without a liner.

Key trade-offs

A simple rule

If your product leaves the line in small, branded, pallet-ready units, use a paper valve bag. If you ship tonnes in bulk and lift by forklift, use an FIBC. We supply both, so we can advise without bias.
